Congregation Beth Jacob Cemetery
From Jack Wides, President (12/15/2008)
Congregation Beth Jacob established a Jewish Cemetery many years ago at the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park on Old Route 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro. Because perhaps some of our newer members are not aware of our Jewish cemetery, I thought it might be a good time to pass on some information.
Any CBJ member or any Jewish person or their family member is eligible to be buried in the cemetery. For those who are not members of Congregation Beth Jacob permission must be obtained through the CBJ Board. Many of us have purchased lots in advance for ourselves and our family members.
The cemetery is managed and maintained by Crain Funeral Homes & Cemeteries of Southern Illinois. All questions about prices for plots, prices for their funeral services and optional services should be directed to Bryan Crain or his staff. The Crain people keep an inventory of basic wood caskets as well as more elaborate models. They also have refrigeration so embalming is not required.
Feel free to visit the Jewish portion of Pleasant Grove Memorial Park which is on the Northeast section of the cemetery. Also, you can go to www.crainonline.com to get visual of the cemetery and more information. Phone Crain at 618 .687.2500.
No one is restricted to any particular funeral home as the cemetery burial is separate from other services. Our congregation does not make any money when a lot is sold or a funeral is conducted.
